Transportation Alternatives Program

The Transportation Alternatives Program is a new program identified in Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) which took effect on October 1, 2012. The Program encompasses three former funding programs: Transportation Enhancements, Hometown Streets and Safe Routes to Schools, and Recreational Trails Programs. The Program offers funding opportunities to help expand transportation choices and enhance the transportation experience through small, community-based transportation and recreation activities related to surface transportation.   The Program expands travel options by enhancing the transportation infrastructure through cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental improvements.

Projects are selected through a statewide competitive application process. The program is now open and applications will be accepted through January 8th. More information can be found on the PennDOT TAP website.
